A Night to Remember

Stefanie Siegel ‘19

On February 15, Golda Och Academy upperclassmen experienced a night they had been anticipating for months: prom. After painstakingly preparing, buying dresses and tuxedos and planning appointments, the exciting night arrived.
Junior Ayala Jones was one of the many people with high expectations for prom.
“I was expecting a carefree night where I could have fun dancing, singing and making memories with my friends,” she said. “The night exceeded my expectations.”
Junior Alana Wernick echoed the same feelings.
“I wanted to party and have a good time with my friends! I was particularly excited to see everyone dressed up in dresses and tuxes instead of in their everyday school attire.”
Not only were students looking forward to this special night, but so were their parents.
Junior Ian Rosen noted how his mother was more enthusiastic about prom than he was.
“My mom was thrilled to take pictures of me in my tux and with my date,” he said. “She was smiling non-stop during pre-prom. By the end of the night, I think her iPhone storage may have been full.”
Many attendees said their favorite part of the night was after their parents had left and when the dancing began. Junior Maddie Herman agreed.
“Prom was such an amazing experience,” she said. “It was like a big bar mitzvah!”
While the majority agreed the best time was spent rocking on the dance floor, many also saw prom as a wonderful way to have one last fun night with the seniors before they left for Neshama and internships.
“The first half, spent on the dancefloor, was incredibly enjoyable and I was so happy to be able to spend it with my senior friends,” Wernick added. “The end of the night, at post-prom, was hard because I knew I was going to miss the entire senior class a lot.
“Even so, I cannot imagine a better way to say goodbye than to spend our last hours together dancing the night away.”

Although prom may seem the same every year from an outsider perspective, no matter the DJ, the food, or the outfits, it is the people who attend that make prom truly a night to remember.
